FAQs

How do I register my child?

Stage one of 2017 registration, done online, is done (beginning Jan. 1, 2017) at https://active.leagueone.com/Olr/Pages/Welcome.aspx?ClubId=13972.

Stage two of 2016 registration is done in person. TBD.

What do I need to bring to the second-stage of in-person registration, after registering online?

What are the fees?

Suited (11- or 12-year-old boy or girl; see age chart below): $105

Farm (9- or 10-year-old  boy or girl; see age chart below): $95

Peanut (7- or 8-year-old boy or girl; see age chart below): $95 (note that we allow 6-year-olds if player has completed at least one year of T-ball and a parent volunteers as a coach)

See the Little League International age chart here

ALSO PLEASE NOTE: The league offers a multi-child discount (oldest child pays full price; younger siblings may register for $50 apiece), and financial scholarships are offered at the ULL board’s discretion. BEFORE checking out (paying) on the online registration site, you will need to get a coupon code for such a discount by emailing ULL President at urbanalittleleague@gmail.com; he will email a personalized code back to you that you can enter in the checkout window before paying.

Does my child have to try out?

All eligible children may play, no matter what their skill level. However, Urbana Little League holds an annual skills assessment for  Farm players (8-, 9- or 10-year-olds) prior to the beginning of the season so as to try to balance the overall competitiveness of the Farm teams.  A skills assessment will be held as well for NEW Suited players (10-, 11- or 12-year-olds).  Returning Suited players need not attend the Suited skills assessment. ULL will consider allowing 8-year-olds to play Farm ball, and 10-year-olds to play Suited ball, based on the number of teams available at that level, the results of the skills assessments (including coach evaluations), and consultation with parents and the ULL Player Representative.

When is the skills assessment?

Tentatively scheduled for mid-March, times and site TBA (weather dependent if we will be indoors or out). Keep posted on our calendar.

Does everyone have to participate in the skills assessment?

Only Farm players (9- to 10-year-olds) and NEW Suited players (11- to 12-year-olds).

What are the age divisions?

Suited (11- or 12-year-old boy or girl; see age chart above)

Farm (9- or 10-year-old  boy or girl; see age chart above)

Peanut (7- or 8-year-old boy or girl; see age chart above) (again, 6-year-olds may play if a parent coaches)

If you’d like to check your child’s LEAGUE age for the upcoming season, please view the chart above.

How are teams selected?

Players are drafted to teams by the Urbana Little League President in consultation with the managers/coaches at the FARM and SUITED level.  PEANUT players will be assigned a team by the League President and Player Representative.

When does the season begin and end?

Regular season practices begin in mid- to late March, with games beginning in April. Regular season games continue into mid-June.  Kiwanis C-U Little League Team Tournaments continue at all levels until the end of June. The last several years, we have participated in the LITTLE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT as seen on ESPN in late August.  From 2011 through ’15, we have fielded two All-Star teams, one for 9- and 10-year-olds and one for 11- and 12-year-olds, in the District 2 tourney.  In 2016, we hope to field three teams: for ages 9-10, 10-11, and 11-12. These tournaments are played in July starting as early as the first week and continue until we lose two games (double elimination).

In 2017, we anticipate the Suited and Farm seasons to start April 10, with the Peanut season to start April 17 or 24. Stay tuned to our our calendar for the latest information.

How can I help?

Urbana Little League is a volunteer-run organization. We strongly encourage all parents or guardians to volunteer in some way to help make Little League baseball in Urbana a success. Please register as a volunteer at https://active.leagueone.com/Olr/Pages/Welcome.aspx?ClubId=13972. Per Little League safety rules, we’ll need to see a copy of an ID as well, which can be sent via email to urbanalittleleague@gmail.com or given to us when we contact you after receiving your Volunteer (or Returning Volunteer) Application.
